HISTORY OF KENYA CRICKET TEAM







Colonial settlers  brought cricket in Kenya , and Mombasa played first from where cricket spread  inland . The first match played in 1899 and 1910 started a three day official fixture . In 1933 started domestic match along with  European V Asian  game., upto 1964 .


          Kenya played first international match in 1951 at Tanganyika , Captained by C de L Innis (representative of  West Indian) Natal team visited to Kenya in 1952, the scoring of Russell Endean was century. Kenya Cricket Association was fo0rmed In 1953, the inter-racial organization by colony although Asian community largely dominated .

          From the decline in 1930,the MCC an invitation to tour  finally England team visited Kenya in 1957-58 under captained Freddie Brown  and again tour in 1963.  The south African non European touring East Africa in 1958 and played a several matches in Kenya . The south African captain was B L D Oliveira . He was pre eminent , won all matches Wickets were mats of jute rather than coconut fiber at that time to reduce the bounce above concrete or impacted  gravel.





          Kenya took part in World cup Cricket in 1975 as a East part of Africa, and again attend in the inaugural of ICC trophy in 1979 . 1982 Kenya were playing with their own flag. They improved their local standard also did their national side.  They took part in World Cup Cricket inn 1996 , there they brought a glorious result by beating West Indies.  They reached the ICC Trophy final  in 1997, they played a good standard as more ODIs both. They began to grown up from emerge as many people tip to the next Test nation after Bangladesh. ICC decided to  making a ODI member to Kenya by seemed the encourage , they only on which sat between full member and associate status.


          Champions Trophy of 2000 hosted by Nairobi and World Cup  2003 co-hosted by Kenya, reached to semi-final by over turning  the form book. But they already on the slide in their finest hour. There was bitter disputes between the board and the players led to a series of strikes.  The KCA found most of the country battings itself stakeholders. Kenya  cricket was doldrums by the end of the disputes in 2005 . Kenya was sponsorless  and effectively in international isolation. Later in the year ICC stripped ODI status from the Kenya.
