HISTORY OF AFGHANISTAN CRICKET





The History of Afghanistan Cricket : The British troops  was playing a cricket match in Kabul of Afghanistan in 1839.Cricket was left by British so it appears that no longer lasting . To the Afghan refugees cricket became popularity in 1990 those who were residing in Pakistan among them. In 1995 the Cricket Board was formed in Afghanistan. In their country they continued to played cricket. Taliban  banned to play cricket in Afghanistan but cricket became  exception in 2000.( Taliban approved to play only cricket as a sports in Afghanistan.  An affiliate member of the ICC elected  the cricket federation  o f Afghanistan in 2001.



          In the same year the national team second time invited to play Pakistani domestic cricket. International media brought the tour attention to Afghanistan when US began to led invasion to the country. The team lost three and drew two of five match during the tour in Pakistan.

          In 2003 two Pakistani tournament played by the team, and winning their first match in the same year. Asian regional tournament began to played by them in 2004.In the ACC Trophy they finishing sixth in their first time.

          They brought more success in 2006 , they were runner up in the middle East cup to Bahrain and beat an MCC former England captain Mike Gatting by 171 runs in Mumbai, For a duck Gatting was dismissed .

          In the summer of 2006 they toured in England , out of seven match they won six . In the second XIs they won three of Essex, Glamorgan and Leicestershire. They also third in the ACC Trophy that year,  beating  Nepal in a play off match



          Their first tournament in 2007 they won , the ACC Twenty 20 Cup sharing with Oman after the two tied in the final. For the World Cup 2011 they began their qualifying campaign in  jersey 2008, Division Five of the World Cricket league  they won. In the ACC Trophy elite tournament they finished third in the same year and second consecutive WCL tournament they won, division four in Tanzania  later in the year.

          Afghanistan progressed to the World cup 2009  qualifier by the winning division thereof the world Cup Cricket league in January 2009.
