Cricket was first played in Italy by the sailor of Admiral Nelson’s in Naples in 1793. Near about 19th century foot ball and cricket club combinedly formed Several combined Cricket and foot ball clubs formed , including the World famous in clued in the World famous AC Milan. Which was rename Milan football and cricket Club. The first football team is football and Genoa cricket club which previously name was Genoa cricket and Athletic Club. These clubs forgot about cricket team in Italy only concentrated in football. They started to review the cricket after the Second World War.
In 1980 the Italy formed the “ Italian Cricket Federation “(Federazion cricket Italian) In 1984 they got affiliate membership of the ICC . They were promoted from affiliate member to associate member in 1995.
The Italy attended the first European championship in Denmark in the year of 1996. They achieved seventh place by beating Israel in a play off. In the ICC Trophy first time they took part in the 1997 tournament and performance was poor. They were got the last place out of 22 team. Next year in European championship they finished fifth place .
In a quadrangular tournament in Gibraltar in 1999 Italy took part and also featuring Israel and France. First time the tournament they won by beating the hosts in the final. In the Division one of the European they finished in fifth place .
In 2001 they participate in the ICC Trophy and were champion, but wait up to last minute due to four players eligibility to dispute over.
Italy finished in the place of sixth in Division one in the European Championship in 2002, They relegating them to Division two for 2004 which was their promptly won. For the ICC Trophy in 2005 they qualified for the repechage tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After beating Zambia in a playoff , they achieved seventh place in that tournament
In 2006 in the European Championship in the Division one Italy took Part. They finished fifth place in the tournament in may/June 2007. They toured to Darwin, Australia to participate in the division three of the world Cricket League.
By beating the Fiji in a play off their position was seventh . In 2008 they played in World Cricket League in Division four and place third in the tournament and remained in the Division four of ICC World Cricket League in 2010. The World Cricket league 2011 they promoted to Second in the Division three. They also came to fourth in ICC World Cricket League 2013 in Division three. They will change the mode of play coming World Cup Cricket 2015 if they finish the ICC World Cricket League Division three in the top two of 2013. So the top two of the World Cricket League 2013 is qualifier. They started to play with encouraging for this tournament as won against Oman by 9 wicket and against United State by 8 runs and defeats against Ireland narrowly by 2 wicket and against Kenya by 7 Wicket comprehensively .
