HISTORY OF BERMUDA CRICKET TEAM





Bermuda played first cricket match on 30 August 1844. With the support of Local People and British troops Cricket Club formed in Bermuda in 1845.In the late 19th century Bermuda played some international match against USA originally Philadelphia. After the First World War greatly diminished the cricket strength of this island. 



Bermuda regained Popularity in Cricket after the Second World War. On the way to West Indies many team toured in Bermuda including Test match. The first tourist team was England in 1960 and followed many team. For Yorkshire Country Cricket Club played first time by Non Yorkshire men. There was traditionally rule in Yorkshire that any one of out side the country could not play for their team. The rule omitted in 1990. Garry Sobers allow to play some games under the captain of Brian Close in Bermuda during the festival match.

Bermuda achieved Associated Membership of the ICC. Bermuda played a match against New Zealand in 1972 that match was first class status. Bermuda stated to compete in International competitions and also ICC Trophy.

Bermuda played ICC Intercontinental Cup in 2004 and 2005, The USA and Canada were their group. In 2004 after defeated by Canada and drawn against USA they were knocked out from the first competition. In 2005 they beat Canada and Cayman Island in Canada won the American group and lost against Kenya in the semi final.

The memorable cricketing moment of Bermuda was 7July 2005 because they qualified for semi final of ICC Trophy 2005. Cricket World Cup 2007 they won the place of West Indies from 1 January to ICC World Cup 2009 qualifier. Then they gained One day International official status.


Bermuda played first international tournament in 2006, they lost every game of the five matches in UAE. The World Cricket Classic Twenty 20 tournament hosted in Bermuda and they also participated. In May 2006 they played their first ODI and beating Canada they achieved their first outing successful at the Queen’s Park Oval. The win ODI list they secured fourth team after Australia, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.Inm the second ODI they lost to Zimbabwe by 194 runs.

In the Twenty 20 knock-out tournament in 2006 they took part but defeated by Jamaika. Next Month four day ICC Intercontinental Cup and two ODIs Bermuda toured in Canada. In Intercontinental Cup they lost but both ODIs they won.

The ICC American Championship Bermuda took part in Division One and with out lost they won the tournament. Bermuda toured in Kenya for three ODIs and an Intercontinental Cup match. The result of Intercontinental Cup match was draw and all the ODIs lost. Then they visited to South Africafor an Intercontinental Cup  against Netherlands. The  match was draw but a glorious record of Batsman David Hemp who scored 247 not out by an innings.




Bermuda played against England on 5 March 2007 in St Vincent. England took 286/8 by 50 over. They lost all the wicket by 22.2 over within 45 runs. Bermuda marked with heavy defeated in first appearance in the World Cup in 2007.They played final game against Bangladesh due to rain 21 over played decided where Bermuda scored 94/9 but Bangladesh reached 96 b y 17.3 over .

In the Intercontinental Cup 2007-08 they lost to Ireland and Netherlands and also ODI series against Netherlands. ICC World Cup 2009 Qualifying matches they participated but their place was 9th. They lost in ICC Intercontinental Shield 2009-10. and finished last in 2011 Division Two.
