HISTORY OF SPAIN CRICKET TEAM





In 1809 the game cricket first played in Spain by the soldiers of General Lord Wellesley (after rename the Duke of Wellington). During the Peninsular war the game started b y the soldier in and around Ciudad Rodrigo, Lugo and Orense. From that period many games played by visitor of British land and sea force they were recorded the game. The game may be between them or local British company. 



The cricket started to play in Spain in 1975 by founding of Madrid Cricket club. It started by the British and Indian players. After Spanish member joined they crossed their national line.

In 1982 Spain founded two cricket club. The cause behind two club, Phil smith on of the player of Madrid CC transferred from this Club to Barcelona, there he founded the second cricket club in Spain. In that years two clubs played the first match at the Polo Club. Every Year they played between the Madrid and Barcelona
There increased a number of club in 1985. They formed the National Association to co ordinate cricket In 1987.



In 2001 Spain played their first international tournament in Austria. That was the ECC Trophy 2001, which began the first tournament in their cricket history. Sweden, Portugal, Finland and Malta were in there group. the match were conducted by 35 over. Their first match was 13 August 2001 in Seebern Cricket Centre against Portugal in Lower Austria. Spain lost the first international match against Portugal by 63 runs. The next match against Finland on 14  August  2001 at the same venue. Spain won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 222/3 by 35 over. The highest scored was 103 of Spain’s innings which was made by Batsman G Howe. Finland made 141/9  by 35 over, so Spain won the match by 81 runs. It was the first winning of international Cricket history of Spain.
