HISTORY OF ENGLAND CRICKET (2ND PHASE)



SECOND PHASE

MCC Luminary Lord Harris  and Kent captain  took a team to Australia  mainly consisting for amateurs , there played and lost by 10 wicket at Melbourne . Batting of English was so strong  but lack of them  professional bowlers. The tour became remember able for an unseemly incident  at Sydney in the game. Edmud Barton one of the umpires , he became  the first prime minister of Australia.



The tourist of Australia were first played test match in England in 1880. Fred Spofforth  was the demon bowler sustained a hand injury and crucially ,missed the game for that W G Grace achieve the score 152 and Billy Murdoch one better run

          Shrewsbury and Lilly white  with all professional side sailed to Australia for the campaign of 1881-82. The tour was allegation of fisticuffs by bedeviled with scandal for  betting and heavy drinking.  18 wicket took in the three tests by Tom Garett in the match. Australia won the tour test series by 2-0 .

          The rivalry of cricket took a new turn to developing  in1882 when played the solitary Test of the summer England lost at the oval at home Spofforth took 7  for 46 runs and Ted Peate took 7 for 44 runs. On 29 August 1882 English cricket  in affectionate Remembrance which died at the oval .

          In 1882-83 The England toured Australia the next winter and played three match , England won 2-1. The Hon Ivo Blis, the England captain presented with an urn that contained some ashes,



          15 Test played by Billy Bates on 5 tour to Australia, Hi took 14 for 102 and his score 55 at Melblourne in the second Test cricket. The First
innings victory bring to
England including the first Test Hat-trick in the Test Cricket. AG Steel score 135*. In the three Test series England won 1-0 in 1884. In the first inning Peate took 6 for 85 and Ulyett took 7 for 36 in Australia , England won by an innings in the Second  Test at lords there Steel  shown an excellent  performance 148 out of England’s fisrt innings of 379,  Billy Murdoch  the captain of Australia  scored the first double century in the Test at the oval, One of the English team Walter  Read hit a century for a period of 113 minute, Englishmen all 11 were bowled in Australian’s innings.
