HISTORY OF BANGLADESH CRICKET



The Cricket culture is the old fashion of Bangladesh. Cricket first started from the Gangs Brahmaputr delta region by the British rulers about 2hundred years ago. For the best side of British rules cricket has took place in common people that it is the recreational game for player and also civilian people.           



Bangladesh gaining independence in 1971 from the Pakistan Government and the cricket continue to grow up slowly. At that time Dhaka stadium was in disrepair , the square having sunk several inched by flood and the Pres Club has no shelter ..

 Over 40.000 people helped to build the enthusiasm to cricketers by the attending the representative matches for the MCC tour at Dhaka in 1977.  Because an Associate member of the ICC. Two further MCC teams toured in 1978/79 and 1980/81.

Within few days the standard of Bangladesh Cricket team  arose and soon Bangladesh was the top associate country in the region, winning all ACC tournaments . For this Bangladesh could play Asia Cup against India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

Bangladesh took place in third Asia Cup ion 1988 against India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participating was well as a host country. Bangladesh played first Under -19 Asia Cup in 1989/90. A good result brought for the country.

Bangladesh won the ICC  trophy in Malaysia in 1997 and qualifying to World Cup appearance . After very soon Bangladesh along with Kenya permitted to play full ODI match by ICC. Bangladesh played her first ODI match and won against Kenya in India in 1998.

Bangladesh hosted the first ever Mini World Cup (although they did not attend ) in October 1998. In 1999 a  knock out system basis ODI tournament featuring all the test playing nations. In the maiden appearance at the World Cup in England Bangladesh defeated fellow ICC associate Scotland, and then pulled off the tournament against favorite Pakistan. As glorious performance in ICC and World Cup Bangladesh was given the 10th test playing status on 26th June 2000.



A famous Ex Cricket Mr Ali Bacher of South Africa visited to Dhaka and noted the game of cricket has great prospects in the country, where there is cricket on the street, cricket in the school, cricket in the village, a competitive league and Friday cricket  drawing crowd of spectators who love the game. Very soon Bangladesh having shed its aristocratic restriction prospers at very grass roots of the society.
