France is the origin of Cricket, it is the some bodies theory, some body tell the birthplace of cricket is France. “Criquet “means a game by a ball and a bat. The game first played in a village of the Pas-de-Calais in France in 1478, and the word “Criquet” was old French word which means “post” or “Wicket”. It is remember that during 100 years War from 14th to 15th century under the English occupations of France cricket had been introduced by English occupiers.
Robert Walpole the British Prime Minister his son Horace Walpole seen the cricket in 1766 in Paris. In 1789 Marylebone Cricket Club produced the first international cricket tour of France, but unluckily French revulsion cancelled the tour and that match was played in 1989, it was the bicentennial celebrations of the revolution. The result was France defeated MCC by seven wicket.
The first documentary match conducted between Paris Cricket club and Warwickshire Knickerbockers in Bois de Boulogne in 1864. The next year Paris Cricket Club published the narrative of the game in a book.
France took place in the Olympic Games for only one cricket game in 1900, but they lost the match. The French team consisted by British citizen in paris.
France participated in an exhibition tournament in Brussels, the MCC, the Netherlands and Belgium also participated in the tournament. There France played one match against Netherlands and won 63 runs.
After the Second World War many cricket Club were formed. In the early 1980 led to a rebuilding of the game by an influx of English and Asian immigrants. The French Cricket Association was built in 1987, and same year they achieved the Affiliate Membership of the ICC.
English team toured in France in 1989, the national team lost to English team. In 1996 France toured in Australia but there also lost against Australian national team. They participated in European Nation Cup in Zuoz, Switzerland. The France won the match by one run against Germany in the final. That match is one of the best of 100 matches of 20th century
In the ICC Trophy in 2001 France took part in Canada but they unable to progress in the first round. Next year they secured fifth position of European championship Division two and 2004 tournament was runner up. They secured sixth in 2006 tournament.
European championship 2008 Division two France secured in fourth place. They also placed in third in the same competition but unluckily non qualified if the ICC 2010 World Cricket league Division eight. European World Cricket League qualified 2012 they finished 2nd.
